BallenIsles Country Club was originally part of PGA National Golf Club when in 1964 renowned Florida land owner and Palm Beach Gardens founder John D. MacArthur and the PGA of America joined forces to create a world-class golf facility capable of attracting and hosting PGA Tour events. PGA National Golf Club, as it was then called, played host to numerous tournaments like the PGA Championship and PGA Seniors Championship. It also became the headquarters of the Professional Golfers’ Association of America and in 1965 Florida State Road 786 that ran through the area was renamed PGA Boulevard at the request of Mr. MacArthur and is now the main East-West artery in the city.

That lasted in some form or another for the next 24 years, when in 1988 the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation sold the three golf courses and massive property that would become the world-class country club community called BallenIsles.
